How To Measure Your Vacuum Cleaner Diameter

Very often, customers ask whether a tool or attachment will fit their vacuum cleaner, such as whether an attachment for a Hoover will fit an Electrolux. The good news is that it's quite easy to determine using a simple ruler. Most vacuum cleaners come with standard diameter tubes, hoses, and attachments. If you know the diameter of your vacuum cleaner, you can confidently buy any tool with the same diameter.

Follow these easy steps to measure the diameter of your vacuum cleaner:

  1. Find a Ruler:

Locate a ruler that has millimeter (mm) measurements.

  1. Measure the Handle Diameter:

Place the ruler across the hollow part of the front of the handle, with the zero end on one side of the opening.

Ensure the ruler is in the center of the handle's hollow part (see illustration below).

Measure the distance in millimeters from one end of the circle to the other.

Important Note:

When measuring, include the edges (external diameter).

 Common Diameters:

32mm (most common)

35mm (common)

36mm (mainly for commercial vacuum cleaners)

  1. Measuring the Rod (Metal Tube):

Apply the same measuring method, ensuring you measure the end that plugs into the floor tool.
